Thomas Roy Meyers passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home in Hideaway Valley, Indianola, Utah, after a long deteriorating illness that diminished his physical capacity, but did not overcome his intellectual and spiritual fortitude. He was attended by family and friends.
Tom was born on June 25th, 1944 in Melrose Park, Illinois. As a boy, Tom showed early promise for scientific work by conducting biological experiments in his room. A graduate of the University of Michigan, trained as a chemist, he worked first in aerospace and later as Quality Control Director for four biomedical companies. His knowledge and expertise on pharmaceutical and medical device technology was much sought after worldwide, when he became an independent consultant for thirty years. His mission was to help companies succeed in a complex regulatory environment, assisting them as instructor, writer, analyst and mentor. He always intended to "delight the client” with the results of his services, which he grounded on traditional Utah values and the freedom philosophy he cherished.
Skilled in multiple techniques, creative, and perseverant, he enjoyed life in the outdoors, sailing, the arts, working on his small ranch, and cooking a wide array of healthy, mostly ethnic foods at chef-level expertise, all of which he shared joyfully with his wife of 26 years, Graciela. Tom and Graciela Torino were married on May 17, 1997, in the Timpanogos Temple, Utah County, Utah. Both joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as adults, and served a mission for the LDS Employment office in Ephraim, Utah. Together they were founding members of the Indianola Valley Fire Department, and were active in the field for ten years. Both read voraciously to each other, seeking to increase in wisdom and knowledge, improve character, and develop service opportunities. The Book of Mormon was Tom’s constant source of inspiration.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, William Duncan Meyers (1912-1992) and mother, Ann Louise Meyers (Triska) (1916-2013). Besides his wife, Graciela, Tom is survived by his brother, William James Meyers (Glenda), his sons, Andrew Meyers and Robin Meyers (Beata), his daughter Erin M. Bruno (Joey), grandchildren Addison and Anthony Bruno, and a treasured list of friends and associates who had the opportunity to express their love, appreciation and respect to Tom during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, Tom and the family suggest that donations be directed to “The Stone Coalition”, an organization dedicated to implementing “The Kingdom of God or Nothing!”, which Tom considered his primary guiding principle.
