Obituary of Thomas Kai Bott 1937-2023 Thomas Kai Bott was born in Provo Utah on May 6th, 1937 to Kai V. Bott and Effie Pearl Gammon. Tom passed away at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo on November 17,2023 due to respiratory failure surrounded by family at his side.
Tom grew up in Provo with his two brothers; Roger and Jerry, and one sister Loretta. He learned the value of hard work from his parents and grandparents. He grew up fishing at Utah Lake, hunting deer and elk in the mountains above Provo, and hunting pheasants and rabbits all over Utah County. He attended Provo High School, then joined the US Army with his friends. He was stationed in Munich,Germany. He married Marlene Taylor in 1960. They were blessed with 3 children; Donna Lee, Jo Lynn, and Thomas Anthony. They then divorced after 25 years.
He enjoyed camping and fishing trips with his family through the years at Strawberry reservoir, Otter Creek, Hobble Creek canyon and the sand dunes. He was able to go on many fun vacations with his kids. Tom's favorite thing was spending time with his family and friends. He loved having a beautiful garden every summer, and tending to his beautiful flowers around his yard. He definitely had a green thumb! He loved watching the birds and the quail in his backyard.
Tom was an excellent cook and loved spending time in the kitchen. Tom later married Carey Paxman in 1994 and they lived in Orem, Utah. She had a daughter Amber from a previous marriage. They were later sealed in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple, and he was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had many beloved dogs, but his favorite was his little dog Chewy. He missed him dearly while he was in the hospital. Tom worked at Backman Foundry, McNally Mountain States Steel as a maintenance foreman, and Geneva Steel where he retired.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister, his dear wife Carey, and his step daughter Amber. He is survived by his children Donna Bott of Pleasant Grove, Jo Lynn Lee of Cottonwood Heights, Thomas (Joni) Bott of Woodland Hills, and adopted Son Dawson of Orem. He also leaves behind Four grandchildren; Spencer Edward Lee, Austin Taylor Lee, Devaney Marie Bott Christianson (Zac), and Brady Thomas Bott. He has one great-grandchild Aurora Marie Christianson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27th, 2023 at Legacy Funeral Home, 3595 N Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah at 10:30 am. Burial is in the Provo City Cemetery at 12:00 pm
