Thomas Aust

Thomas Edward Aust, age 79, of Spanish Fork, UT, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah. He died of complications to advanced Parkinson's, Stroke, and being unable to swallow.



He was born August 15, 1939 in Cedaredge, Delta, Colorado to Donald Feldner and Vera Charlotte Phillips Aust. He attended Eckert Elementary School, then to Cedaredge High School where he learned many things, chief among those things, was music. He also attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, Colorado and Brigham Young university.



Upon High School graduation, he joined the U.S. Army where he was appointed to the Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. where he played the B-flat Clarinet and the Tenor Saxophone. While there, he marched in the inaugural parade for President Eisenhower. He married Clea Lee Homer, of Charlo/Dixon, Montana, November 6, 1965 in the Idaho Falls Temple, in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho. They had 5 beautiful children and 14 wonderful grandchildren. He was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 8, 1959 in Washington, D.C. while attending the Naval School of Music. Since then, he has held many positions in the church which include serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a missionary in the Texas Mission. He also served as Ward and Stake Choir Directors, Primary Pianist, a mission with his wife at the LDS Employment Services, Ward Family History Consultant, and he served as a temple worker for several years at the Provo Temple.



He was a County Delegate for the Republican Party through 3 elections, he was a dancer with the Polynesian Dance group at Brigham Young University in Provo, he was in Operas such as "The Magic Flute" and the University Choral, he also played in the college orchestra and wrote music, performed at BYU. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition and Theory and a minor in German. He also worked at BYU for about 29 years before he retired. In his later years he was a member of both the Spanish Fork and Payson Senior Centers.



He loved studying wild plants, rock hounding; He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed listening to the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. He enjoyed camping, hiking, flint knapping, mostly he loved to play the piano. He composed and played his own music.



He is survived by his wife, Clea Lee (Homer) Aust, his children: David (Mary) Aust I, Heidi (Fran) Ott, Kalani Aust, and Michael Dan (Debrah) Aust. Surviving grandchildren are: David (Michone) Aust II, Elizabeth Christine Aust, Catherina Mary Aust, Karl Michael James Aust, Benjamin Joseph Aust, Jacob Alexander Aust, Derek Francis Ott, Steven Joseph Ott, William Alexander (Adriene) Ott, Jason Phillip Ott, Rebecca Rose Aust, Christopher Michael Dan Aust, Emma Cherie Aust, and Matthew Edward Aust. He is also survived by his brother Donald (Buzzie) Aust.



Services will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2019 at 1:00pm at the LDS chapel at 1750 E. 750 S. Spanish Fork, Utah, with viewings held on Friday, March 29, From 6-8 pm and on Saturday, before the funeral from 11:30 to 12:45 at the church. The interment will be held at the Nephi City Cemetery at 400 N. 400 E. Nephi, Utah, from 2:30 to 3:00pm. There will also be a luncheon for family and close friends at the chapel named above in Spanish Fork.



The family would like to thank all our family and friends, ward leaders, and ministering angels, as well as the Staff at Peak Therapy, Spanish Fork Clinic, and the Med/Surg floor staff at the Mountain View Hospital. Thank you for the time and care you gave him. And a special thanks to his daughter and caregiver for the many hours spent caring for her father.
