Jerry Scott Young

"Scott", passed away in his home in Provo on July 2, 2022, after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

Born to Jerry and Lora Lee Young on May 22, 1962, Scott loved to read and think deeply, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge by debating with family and friends. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1980, where he gained a love of all kinds of sports. He later served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Atlanta, Georgia. He would always talk about the many spiritual experiences he had there, and the impact they had on the rest of his life.

He was blessed with four children from his first marriage: Tiffani Holley, Jesse Young, Justin Young, and Jaren (Brittany) Young. He was married to Paula Kay Steele on October 18, 2019, and sealed to her a year later for time and all eternity in the Provo City Center Temple. Between them they shared 31 beloved grandchildren, whom they both loved dearly. He especially doted on his granddaughter Ryan.

Scott was a many-faceted man. He was a sports enthusiast, book collector, history buff, and lover of classic black & white films. He drank Dr. Pepper, wore sunglasses, shorts, and flip flops, and was obsessed with Polo attire. He was a husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He meant so much to so many people, and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Jerry Young in 1990, and his grandson Christopher Elkins in 2021. He is survived by his wife Paula, mother Lora Lee, brother Chad, sister Shauna (Layne) Christensen, sister Candice (Dave) Gaddis, four children, seven stepchildren and thirty grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the LDS chapel located at 131 South 1600 West in Provo at 11:00am, preceded by a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30am at the same location. There will also be a luncheon at the church following the service for all in attendance.
