Sadie Leora Shoell

April 10, 1944 — January 6, 2025

Sadie “Syd” Leora Davis Shoell passed away peacefully at her home on January 6, 2025, surrounded by love. Syd was born on April 10, 1944, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Mont R. Davis and Hal Dora Bowen Davis. She spent her early years in Salem before moving to Spanish Fork, where she graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1962.

Syd discovered her passion for nursing early and pursued it at Westminster in Salt Lake City, earning her degree in 1966. Her career spanned decades, beginning in a doctor’s office and continuing at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah, where she cared for patients in every corner of the hospital. Syd thrived in the emergency room, her favorite place to work, and later dedicated 25 years to the ER at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Her expertise, warmth, and radiant smile left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike. Syd retired in 2000 but continued serving her community as a nurse at the Utah County Jail for three more years.

Her contributions went beyond hospital walls. Syd was instrumental in founding the Spanish Fork Ambulance service in the 1970s and taught CPR throughout the county. Her children fondly remember learning CPR at a young age and watching her bring the ambulance to schools to inspire others.

Syd married Merrill McKell, with whom she shared three sons: Mike, Chet, and Clint. Though they later parted ways, Syd remained devoted to her family. On November 28, 1985, she married Lynn Shoell, the love of her life, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and travel. Syd and Lynn cherished road trips with their trailer, exploring breathtaking destinations and creating memories Lynn will hold dear forever. Their winters in Mesquite were filled with golf, bowling, and friendships that brought them so much joy.

To know Syd was to love her. Her positivity was infectious, her laugh unforgettable, and her kindness unparalleled. She lived a life dedicated to serving others and brought light into every room she entered.

Syd is survived by her loving husband, Lynn Shoell; her children, Mike, Chet, and Clint McKell; her grandchildren, Trevor McKell, Brianna (Nick) Gardner, Dakota McKell, and Sadie (Nate) Robinson; and her great-grandchildren, Aurora Gardner, Frankie Gardner, Roenick McKell, and Zach McKell. She is also survived by her brother, Clint (Cuca) Davis, sister-in-law Diane (Kenny) Bringhurst, sister-in-law Joanne Davis, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mont and Dora Davis; her siblings, Mack (Jerry) Brimhall, Joan (Bill) Bellows, Roy Davis, and Sherry (Mark) Johnson.

A celebration of Syd’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, January 11, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 1349 East 400 North, Spanish Fork, Utah. All who knew and loved Syd are invited to join in honoring her memory.

Syd’s legacy of compassion, resilience, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
