Ronald David Gerber was born October 20, 1943, in Wilshire Hospital, in Hollywood California. He was the second of 3 children born to Harold Gerber and Adele Conant. At 9 years old he started his first job - 3 paper routes. When he was 15 years old, Ron was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has stayed faithful through his lifetime.
In 1961 Ron graduated from Cal High in Whittier and then attended Ricks College in Rexburg for a year. In 1962 he bought his 1st car, a cream color 1957 Chevy. In 1963 he married Janet Birkle in the Los Angeles Temple. Over the years, they had 7 children. Ron ran a boy’s home for 2 years. Their first house was in West Covina, California where they lived for 7 years. Ron was a reserve LAPD Policeman for 8 years. Then they moved to Pedley, California where they lived for almost 3 years. While there Ron ran a part-time landscaping business. Moving to Selma, Oregon, they had a little farm with 4 acres of pasture and a creek through the back of the property.
In 1982 they moved to South Jordan, Utah for 6 months and then back to Whittier, California, close to family. Ron managed the Video Depot store that he was part owner in. In 1985 they moved back to Oregon, this time to the Dallas area. After 25 years of marriage, Ron and Jan got divorced. Ron later became a Mortgage Loan Officer. After 5 years of being single, Ron married Patty DeMott in the Portland Oregon Temple and became step-father to her 2 daughters. They lived in various houses in the Salem Oregon area until they moved to Utah in 1997. They then lived in a few places in the Orem area but lived mostly in Salem, Utah. They had Patty’s parents, Bill and Marcene DeMott move-in with them for a time. They moved for the last time in 2020 to Spanish Fork.
Ron is survived by his wife Patty, 5 daughters and 2 sons and their spouses, as well as 2 step-daughters and their spouses: Julie & Mark Lekic of Orem, Utah; Carey & Hosamm Ramsey of Cupertino, California; Marvin & Renee Gerber of Queen Creek, Arizona; Brenda Gerber of Albany, Oregon; Craig & Kathy Gerber of Mesa, Arizona; Catherine Haines of Lacey, Washington; Jenny Watanabe of Escondido, California; Gena & Ryan Roseman of Provo, Utah and Brenda & Andrew Beene of Hooper, Utah.
Ron has 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Adele French, older brother Robert Harold Gerber and his grand-daughter Sara Tessa Lytle, daughter of Brenda Gerber. Ron will be interred at the Hayward Cemetery in Banks, Oregon.
Services for Ron will be held on Monday, January 7, 2024 at 1552 E 750 Spanish Fork, Utah at the Mt Nebo LDS Ward building. The Viewing will begin at 9:00 am with the Funeral service immediately following. Services will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking the link below.
