Roger Byron Campbell, age 86, passed away in Mapleton, Utah on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
He was the son of Juniata (Miller) and Vernon Ray Campbell. He was born on June 19, 1935, in Porterville, California. At age 2, the family moved to Bakersfield, California where he attended school, graduating from east Bakersfield High School and later from Brigham Young University in Provo Utah.
He married Jacille (Jackie) Adell Lovett on June 2, 1955 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. He was in the U. S. Army from January 1956 until September 1957 and served at Ft. Ord, California, Ft Lewis, Washington, and Ft Richardson, Alaska. Following graduation from college, he worked in the claims department for an insurance company where he became a supervisor and branch Claims Manager. In 1976 he was hired by Ralph C. Wilson Industries of Detroit, Michigan as President of Ralph C. Wilson Claims Service and then as President of the Ralph C. Wilson Insurance Agency. In 1988 when the Insurance Agency was sold, Roger returned to California and worked again for the Insurance Company as Branch Manager of Northern California until January 2000 when he retired.
He was an active member of the LDS church and held various leadership positions there. Following retirement, he and his wife served 4 missions for the church, 2 in Germany, 1 on Temple Square in Salt Lake City and 1 in Independence, Missouri.
He was a good athlete playing basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. He loved people and his hobby was keeping track of those he met as the family moved about from location to location in his work and church service. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, 7 children, Laurie (Tynes) Grant, Larry, Alan, Curtis, Diane (Brunette) and Lynn (Warner), 35 grandchildren and at the time of this writing 55 great grandchildren. A brother, Douglas resides in Burley, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jay Campbell and a brother, Rolland Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at the Mapleton 10th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3:00 pm at 1068 S 1600 W Mapleton, Utah 84664. Burial will follow at the Mapleton Cemetery at 620 W Maple Street, Mapleton Utah.
