Richard Rulon Hansen\n\nApril 28 1935 - October 25 2015\n\nMy stalwart Dad quietly endured to the end. Richard R. Hansen passed away Sunday morning, October 25, 2015. He struggled with dementia and kidney failure, however he passed peacefully in the quietness of the morning.\n\nRichard was born April 28, 1935 in Provo, to Rulon B. & Reanon Wilson Hansen. He was the older of two boys. Gordon W. Hansen is his younger brother who currently lives in Alameda CA. Richard married his Jr. High School sweetheart Shirley Anderson, in June of 1957. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for many years, but he also made a career of serving in the military with the Utah National Guard for 42 years. He was a Master Sergeant with the Region V NCO Academy at Camp Williams.\n\nHe was very proud of his "one and only" child, Stacey L. Gilmore. When he was asked, how many children he had, he always responded by saying "I have one, she is perfect and that's all I need". Although perfection has not yet been obtained, it was fun to think that I was perfect in my dad's eyes.\n\nRichard also loved his "one and only" grandson, Benjamin H. Gilmore. Together they loved to talk about hot rods and had fun working on wood projects in my dad's garage. \n\nThis past year has been harder than most for him because his wife of 57 years, Shirley A. Hansen, died in August of 2014. The dementia he suffered with, for many years, was both a curse and a blessing. At times he would forget that mom passed and would tell others that she was "just shopping". \n\nServices will be on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Camp Williams (17111 So. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT). There will a viewing from 10:30 -11:30 am in the chapel with a military graveside service to follow.\n\nIn Lieu of flowers the family would like you to donate to the Utah Alzheimers Association at www.alz.org/utah or by calling 1-800-272-3900\n\nAt the conclusion of graveside services a luncheon will be provided at Staceys house.
