Michael A. Makarczyk of West Valley City passed away suddenly of coronary artery disease on September 1. Michael grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, attended University of Virginia on a full swimming scholarship where he studied chemical engineering. Michael's career focused on simulation and he was most recently employed at Rockwell Collins in Salt Lake City. Michael continued to swim all his life and currently holds 17 US Masters swimming records in Utah.
Anyone who knew Michael, knew he was an avid motorcyclist and spent much of his free time riding and racing in the area. Michael is survived by his mother, Una White of Springfield, Va, his sisters; Lori Roy (Totan) of Sterling, Va, Cynthia Thomas (Stanley) of Alexandria, Va, and Susan Manley (Steve) of Richmond, Va. He was a loving uncle and great uncle to nine nieces
and nephews. He may be remembered most, however, as a loyal, one-of-a-kind friend to many in Salt Lake.
