Matilde Montante

July 1, 1929 — August 7, 2014

Matilde Montante Obituary Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Matilde Montante, earned her angel wings on August 7, 2014. She was born on July 1, 1929, in San Ysidro Del Obraje, Pinos, Zacatecas, Mexico, to J. Apolinar Mata and Felipa Salazar.

As a woman of many talents, she studied cosmetology; she loved doing facials, hair and nails, she was a seamstress by trade, a homeopathic healer, a massage therapist, a caretaker, a nurturer, a mentor, and most of all a loving mother. She was a dedicated mother, and passionate about her family and faith. As a young girl she helped her mother with the housework and provided care for her siblings. In her early twenties she divorced her abusive husband, and with two young daughters she moved to Juarez, Mexico in search of employment opportunities.

Soon after her mother became ill, her mother asked her to help raise her six siblings. Within a few days, her mother passed away leaving her with the difficult task of caring for six siblings and two of her own daughters. Without a formal education, she managed to overcome all adversities and challenges; always moving forward and seeking to improve her family's economic turmoil. Eventually she found employment in, El Paso, Texas where she re-married and had three sons and two more daughters.

In pursuit for a better life, the family moved to California where she remained most of her life. She became a widow, and later re-married and had two more sons, and later a daughter. It shows the strength and character of a woman that would not be denied, for this we are forever grateful, thank you mom. As a women of devout faith, she attended St. Louis of France Church where she was a member, and contributed to rebuilding of the church; despite the fact that she had little money to spare. She loved working on the yard and taking care of her many plants which she also used for medicinal purposes.
