Lowell Kendrick

Lowell Jay Kendrick, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away from lung cancer on July 4, 2024 in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was 88.

 Lowell was born April 17, 1936 in Logan, Utah to Ruby Jane Johnson and Ernest Bertram Kendrick. Lowell attended school in Logan up until the eleventh grade, when the family moved to Ogden. He finished the last two years of high school at Ogden High School. After high school he attended Weber State and Utah State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. In September 1956 he was called to serve in the French Mission, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Lowell also served in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis and was honorably discharged in March of 1966.

 In 1967 Lowell married Lorna Joanne Thompson in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They were married for 57 years. Lowell and Lorna resided in Chicago, IL where Lowell taught French at New Trier High School and was also a Chicago City bus driver. They then moved to Banff, AB Canada where he taught French at the high school. Their first child, Tod, was born in Banff. They then moved to Magrath, AB where they resided for the next 39 years. They had three more children, Julie, Marnie, and John. Lowell taught French, computers, special education and other various classes at Magrath High School. He also taught at the Hutterite Colony. He was a dedicated educator and a positive influence for so many students. In 1981, Lowell received his Master’s Degree in Education from Brigham Young University.

 When Lowell wasn’t teaching school, he spent a great deal of time outdoors gardening or milking the family cow. He enjoyed reading and working on computers. He had a large tractor and he and his sons ran a small business rototilling, mowing and snow plowing. He and Lorna served 3 more church missions. They served a CES mission in Paris, France, a mission in the West Indies, and one at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2008 Lowell and Lorna moved to Spanish Fork, Utah to be closer to their children.

 Lowell is survived by his wife, Lorna, his four children Tod Kendrick (Heather), Julie Erickson (Keith), Marnie Hiatt, John Kendrick (Kim), 12 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Lynden Kendrick (Betty) and his sister-in-law, Karen Kendrick. Lowell will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who loved him very much.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, July 11th at 6:00 pm at the church at 1167 S 1700 E Spanish Fork, Utah. A memorial service will also be held in Alberta Canada at a later date.
