LeIna S. Christensen, 89, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, February 23, 2025. LeIna was born on January 31, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Robert Lee and Ina Grace Soelberg Smith, and she was the oldest of nine children. She married Raymond Grant Christensen on May 27, 1955, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After they were married, Raymond and LeIna lived in Shelley and Goshen, Idaho, for over 40 years. After the passing of her husband, LeIna moved to Saratoga Springs, Utah, and later to Mapleton, Utah, where she lived with her daughter.
LeIna was the mother of 7 children, 22 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Many of LeIna’s early years were spent raising her children, gardening, canning, baking and numerous other projects that helped provide for her family and served the community. After most of her children were grown, she worked on the custodial crew for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years, where she made many lasting friends. Later in life, she spent many years caring for her husband as he battled cancer.
After Raymond passed away, she moved to live closer to her daughters, and she spent many hours caring for her grandchildren and attending many of their activities. She loved her grandchildren and looked forward to phone calls and visits from them. She was also able to enjoy traveling with her children and grandchildren on various family vacations. She leaves a great legacy of hard work and love for her family and will be greatly missed.
LeIna was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings throughout her life and in her later years enjoyed making her delicious bread for the ward’s sacrament.
LeIna is survived by her 7 children, Milton (Susan) Christensen, Steven (Wendy) Christensen, Dermont (Dolores) Christensen, Marie (Bill) Nilsson, Sharon Christensen, Ruth (Brian) Olsen, Sheryl (Ryan) Mitchell, daughter-in-law, Miryam Christensen, 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Doug Smith, and sister Faye Fullmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Christensen; her parents, Robert and Ina Grace Smith; and siblings, Jennings Smith, Nelia Luthy, Martel Smith, Ariel Smith, Lowell Smith, and Weldon Smith.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Applegate Hospice for all the love and care they gave our mother, and for the many other people who showed so much love to our mother over the years.
