Kris Hawkes Blauer

December 19, 1961 — August 25, 2024

Kris Hawkes Blauer blessed this earth with his presence on December 19, 1961. He was born to Wallace Dean Blauer and Patricia Hawkes Blauer. Kris was born and raised in River Heights, Utah where he explored and loved every street (and several yards) in town. Our hero and our rock lived 62 years on this earth before passing away from cancer on August 25, 2024.

As a child, Kris had a very sophisticated palate. Butter was among the things he enjoyed eating most. His love for butter often led him on exploits to find an unattended bar or two. When found, no vehicle was needed for the consumption of this fine treat and he would eat it plain. Of course, once his butter consumption had been discovered, the butter was hidden in places he could no longer access. Faced with a lack of access to his favorite treat, Kris even attempted to eat a “butter”fly until he was saved by his older sisters. Kris's early love of butter would continue throughout his life.

While attending Sky View High School, Kris sought out many different extracurricular opportunities while football was not in season. He briefly considered an acting career after landing the lead role in “The Robe”. Even though the role required that he wear a tunic (which he swore was a dress), he persevered. After completing his first acting gig, he gave up the stage and moved on to more worthwhile pursuits; such as pottery class where he first saw the love of his life, Julie.

Shortly after graduating High School, Kris had been “dragging main street” in his Jeep when he saw the cute girl from his pottery class and she asked for a ride on his motorcycle. Kris hurried home, grabbed his bike and cruised back to pick her up with his awesome mullet flapping in the air. He went on to date, marry, have children with and smooch that girl for the rest of his life. Kris and Julie were married September 14, 1983 in the LDS Logan temple.

Kris loved Utah State University, where he obtained a degree in Geology. He immediately put that knowledge to work at Earth Fax Engineering, where he excelled as a Hydro-Geologist. He was eventually lured away by a client (ATK Launch Systems/Northrop Grumman) where he managed environmental services. He was well respected and loved by his clients and his co-workers because he respected and loved them. He lived his mantra to the fullest: “A day without laughter is a wasted day.”

Kris was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Although he was glad to serve in a Bishopric and various other callings, he found his greatest joy serving with the youth teaching Sunday School and spent many years leading scouts of all ages. He was a valiant servant of Christ, always reaching out with a smile on his face.

Kris was very well rounded with hobbies that ranged from watching sports, woodworking, and fishing all the way to watching sappy shows on Hallmark. More than any of those things, “Papa” loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading to them and having them sit on his lap while they told him unintelligible stories that he could smile and nod along with. Kris was always there for his children and grandchildren helping with homework or supporting them in their chosen sport or activity (even if it meant watching a dance recital instead of an Aggie game). But most importantly Papa was a warm place to cuddle up and fall asleep.

Kris is survived by his best friend and wife, Julie Blauer. Children: Danielle Blauer, Taylor (Marissa) Blauer, Brooke (Jared) Skousen, and Conor (Rebekah) Blauer. Grandchildren: Rohan, Gus, Barrett, Lily, Grace, Fitzgerald, Ivy, Noelle, and Juniper.
