Kenneth A Black (Ken) passed away surrounded by family on October 26th, 2023. He was born on January 29th, 1951 in Salina, Utah to Kendall J Black and Evelyn Gwen Hunt. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Catherine Ruby Pendleton, father to three, and grandfather to five.
He graduated from Wayne County High School and Salt Lake Community College in Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics. Ken was an entrepreneur, owning several of his own businesses as a contractor, insurance agent, and auto glass repair and replacement specialist. As a contractor he worked on the renovation of the Manti LDS temple.
He loved to fly a Cessna in his younger years and later fulfilled his dream of working on airplanes with Utah Valley University Aviation Department. In his later years, he worked with friend, Dwayne Bass, restoring a Zenith light aircraft.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, service was ever important to Ken. He served a church mission to Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada among the Cree people. He served with youth in the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years and loved sharing his appreciation of the outdoors with them.
He was an avid hunter, fisher, backpacker, and camper, always providing a freezer full of game meat for the family. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA and collector of guns and archery equipment.
Ken will be tenderly remembered as a compassionate person who could never bear to see others going without. His work ethic and generosity will forever define his memory, as will his faith in Jesus Christ, which inspired his good works. Ken’s cheerful personality was especially loved by all children, especially those in his neighborhood. He never passed up an opportunity to express love to the people around him or bear testimony of Jesus Christ.
Ken was preceded in death by Kendall J Black (father), Evelyn Gwen Hunt Black McKinney (mother), and Dale Lavern McKinney (step-father). He is survived by Catherine (wife), Chelise & Douglas Morgan (daughter, son-in-law), Krista & Douglas Hall (daughter, son-in-law), Justin R Black (son), grandchildren (Elora, William, Ethan, Carson, Rebekah), Burke (brother), Connie (step-sister), and Michael (step-brother).
