After a long and sometimes painful fight with cancer, Kathy Dinsmoor of Midway, Utah passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2025.
Katherine Loanna Dinsmoor was born April 11, 1951 in Monterey Park, California to William George Dinsmoor and Raeola Hyde Dinsmoor. Kathy was the 3rd of 5 children.
She graduated from El Dorado High School in Placerville, California, and went on to attend Brigham Young University where she received an Associate Degree with the class of 1989.
Kathy began a life of adventure and service soon after when she started work in Washington DC on Capitol Hill in the offices of Senator Jake Garn. After her service with Senator Garn, and at his suggestion, Kathy joined the Navy reserves as a Petty Officer 3rd class as a Yeoman working for SAC LANT unit (Supreme Allied Command Atlantic). She served honorably for 6 years.
Her adventures continued after her military discharge, as she decided to join the Foreign Service. Her great people skills, and her talent for organization led her to be a highly appreciated specialist and a boon to Ambassadors all over the world in American Embassies. During her long tenure, Kathy worked in Embassies in Japan, Greece and Canada among others.
Kathy loved the travel, and the opportunity to experience new places and the cultures and people of the world. Her home was filled with beautiful mementos of art and culture from her travels.
Kathy’s biggest adventure was in 1998 when, as a single woman, she traveled to China with a group organization and adopted her daughter MacKenzie who was 14 months old.
After Kenzie’s adoption, Kathy went back to Ottawa, Ontario where she finished out her foreign service career.
With her biggest memento in tow, Kathy moved back to the states and settled in Midway, Utah, where she raised Kenzie.
Kathy was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she worshiped and served in her local congregation and the temple.
A lover of all animals, but mostly kitties, their home almost always had a kitty. The first one Kenzie remembers was a kitty Kathy adopted in Greece! She loved to be in nature. She especially enjoyed skiing and long walks/hikes around the beautiful backdrop of the mountains she lived at the base of.
She was a huge BYU sports fan. And avidly followed their football and basketball programs.
Kathy is survived by her daughter MacKenzie Dinsmoor (U.S. Navy, E-3), sister Jeanette Dinsmoor Dickerson (Tom), sister Camille Dinsmoor Julkunen (Juha), brother Joseph Dinsmoor (Korey) and several nieces and nephews.
As per Kathy’s wishes, no public services will be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Paws For Life Organization in Kathy’s name.
