Karen Parsons

August 24, 1956 — March 18, 2017

Karen Christensen Parsons, 60, returned to her Heavenly Father on March 18, 2017, in her home surrounded by family after a 2 1/2 year struggle with cancer.

She was born August 24, 1956 to James and Rosalie Christensen in Richfield, Utah. She was Married to Steven Merrill Parsons in the Manti Temple on July 8, 1976. They have 10 children, and 21 grandchildren.

Karen attended school in Richfield, Utah and graduated from Richfield High School as the Salutatorian of her class. She was an avid scholar and was the Valedictorian of her Snow College graduating class, earning a full scholarship to BYU. Karen was an avid and voracious reader and loved to learn. She and Steve attended Education Week at BYU for over 20 years together.

She loved music and played the piano and organ. She particularly loved the Hymns and was the Ward Organist for 17 years and played the piano in Primary for several years before that. She loved having a project to do. She was a person of diverse and many talents. She loved to sew and create clothes, costumes, and even coats for her family. She enjoyed canning and having a garden. She made many creative and industrious cakes for her children's birthdays. She loved putting puzzles together and played board & card games with her family and friends. Her children say she was a great cook and made the best homemade bread and pickles.

Karen was a person of great faith and trust in Heavenly Father. She had a firm, unshakeable testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and showed it in her daily living. She loved the temple and genealogy work. She was kind and responsive to those who needed a friend or support. She was not caught up in material things and put people first. Her children remember her as someone who didn't gossip or talk bad about people. She was not a complainer and didn't complain even to the end. She was a dedicated, loving wife and mother. Her family and faith were the most important things in her life. She lived a life of sacrifice, dedicating her time and energy to her family.
