John Douglas Bird, 75, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away July 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by family due to complications from diabetes. Doug is survived by Naomi, his wife of 51 years, sons, Jason (Susanna) Bird, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Kendall (Wendy) Bird, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Stewart (Cami) Bird, Springville, Utah, and daughter, Adrianne (Brett) Miller, Springville, Utah; grandchildren Abigail, Edward, Eliza, Willett, Eva, Emerson, Audrey, George, Lewis, Lillian, Elizabeth, and Nickolas; sisters Barbara, Brenda, Mary Ann and brothers, Blake and Eric. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Eileen, and his brother, Jim.
Doug was born on April 16, 1940 in Spanish Fork, Utah. He graduated from Springville High School in 1958. He served an LDS mission in the Billings, Montana Mission, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in accounting. He spent his career in hospital administration working in hospitals in California, Oregon, and Wyoming. Doug loved what he did and was very successful.
Doug was a truly special person who went out of his way to make everyone he met a new friend. His positive demeanor and terrific sense of humor were always at the ready, and his presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Doug had many hobbies that he enjoyed to the fullest; oil painting, bowling, golf, and his true passion, fishing. He liked nothing more than being on the river with his fly rod. Whatever Doug was doing, he did it with an enthusiasm and dedication that inspired many.
Special thanks to DaVita Dialysis where Doug made many friends and was treated with loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, consider contributing to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or Primary Children's Hospital.
