1944 Jere 2024

Jere Johnson

June 29, 1944 — November 15, 2024

Jere DeVell Johnson II, age 80, passed away on November 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Jere was born on June 29, 1944, in Payson, Utah, to Jere DeVell Johnson and Ellen Jean Wilson Johnson. He grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah, and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1962. Following high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jere spent most of his career working at U.S. Steel (Geneva), retiring when the plant first closed in 1987. Never one to stay idle, he began a second career at Ensign-Bickford (Trojan Powder Plant) and retired again when it closed in 2006. Later, Jere worked briefly for Spanish Fork City, a job he described as the most enjoyable of his career thanks to the incredible people he worked with and the friendships he formed.

Jere married Patricia Brandon, and they were blessed with two children before later divorcing. In 1972, he married Becky Hall, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. Together, they were blessed with three children.

Jere had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and enjoying annual trips to Lake Powell with family and friends. His sons hold fond memories of their hunting adventures together. He was also actively involved in his sons' lives, coaching their baseball teams and later playing in the Spanish Fork Baseball City Softball League. His family, including his beloved aunts who were die-hard fans, enjoyed cheering him on from the stands.

Family was everything to Jere. He adored his grandchildren and took great joy in watching them participate in cheerleading, sports, and other activities. His presence and support will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jere is survived by his wife, Becky, and his children: Jered (Maevonna) Johnson, Cris Johnson, and Ashlee (Todd) Ross, all of Spanish Fork; Jodee (Donald) Gable of Gering, Nebraska; and Todd Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada. He leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his siblings: Peggy Woodson, Kevin (Mary Ann) Johnson, and Lisa (Todd) Evans, all of Tooele, Utah, and Randy (Deborah) Johnson of Mesquite, Nevada. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Aspen Meadows 1st Ward Chapel, located at 1661 South 1400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah. A visitation will take place prior to the service, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Spanish Fork Cemetery.

Jere’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
