On Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the age of 48, Jennifer Buchanan passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. She has returned to our Heavenly Father after fighting off cancer for 12 long years. Jennifer was a loving mother, sister, friend, and SB. Jennifer embraced life and everyone that she encountered, uplifting them with her infectious smile, laughter, and sometimes questionable sense of humor.
Jennifer's loving and fun personality drew people to her. Whether she was playing volleyball, outperforming Whitney Houston in karaoke, or simply tackling her day-to-day job, people couldn't help but gravitate to Jennifer. She developed genuine, lifelong friendships in all stages of her life. Jennifer cherished those friendships as she did her family, and Jennifer loved her family. She adored playing/watching volleyball with her sisters and nieces. She loved playing canasta with her mom, stepdad, aunt, and uncle. She embraced family history stories while decorating graves with her dad. She longed for those days she got to share her pebble ice and apple sauce with her adopted grandbaby. Jennifer took every opportunity to be with her family and to let them know how much she loved them.
Jennifer experienced many struggles in her life, but she never wanted anyone to know. She was strong and fiercely determined to tackle everything on her own, to show her daughter what you can accomplish. Jennifer channeled that same fierce determination in assisting others in any way she could. Helping others brought Jennifer immense joy and took the focus off her and anything she might be going through. Regardless of if you were family, extended family, or a friend, Jennifer was there to lend a hand, a warm hug, an understanding ear, or a shoulder to cry on.
Jennifer is survived by her daughter, Ashlin Buchanan, adopted daughters Mariah (Brandon) Cortes, Macenzie (Kolton) Delahoyde, and Maliyah Cortes, her parents Jack (Riet) Buchanan and Barbara (Kent) Memmott, brother and sisters, Jared (Heather) Buchanan, JaNae (Aerron) Winsor, Jacki (Kent) Roper, Juli (Trevor) Van Ginkel , Jessica (Jed) Memmott and Michelle Cortes, and a large extended family.
