James Wendell Neilsen passed away on July 3, 2013. He was born November 1, 1919, the 4th child of John S. and Hazel Vest Neilsen. He married Verdie Marie Chamberlain December 23, 1944 while serving in the Navy during World War II. He served as a cook on the USS US Grant. Dad grew up in Mona, Utah. He loved his horses and spent time working cattle on his beloved Mt. Nebo. After the war, he worked for the Rail Road, owned a Dairy Queen, and worked in a paper mill. Finally settling down in Tooele County working at Deseret and Dugway. When he moved back to Mona and retired he worked for the Juab School District and Juab County road crew. Dad loved the Gospel and served in many callings including Gospel Doctrine teacher, Ward Clerk, Bishop, and Scouting. He always carried a Book of Mormon to give away. Dad had many hobbies. He played the harmonica, gardened, braided leather, tied flies and worked with his horses. He was a friend to all. He is survived by his 5 Children; Judith M Mitchell, H. Sue Neilsen, Beverly J. Atherley (Danny), James R. Neilsen (Jolene), and Paula K. Jewett (Neal), 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grand children. He is preceded in death by his wife, Verdie and several brothers and sisters.
A viewing will be held at the Mona 1st Ward, 65 East 100 North, Mona, UT on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on the following day at 11:00 am at the same location with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Interment will be at the Mona City Cemetery.
