Crystal River, FL

Former Utahn and University of Utah Alumni, Gregory David Clayton passed away in his sleep at the age of 64 in his Crystal River, FL. Home on June 1st, 2024.

Gregory was born July 26, 1959, in Provo Utah, to Kelvin C Clayton and Mary Ann Clayton. Gregory obtained a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah. He attended Law School for 1 year. He received his Certificate of Fleet Management from the Warton School of Business. Gregory drove a semi tractor trailer for most of his career. Although aspiring to be an Attorney, he said “I can be a mediocre attorney or an extraordinary truck driver.” Gregory put a million miles under his belt. He was a member of the Western Conference of Teamsters. Well educated and liked by many, the gregarious Greg always had an intellectual and a uniquely sophisticated paradigm for life. Always one up for conversation Gregory enjoyed the company of friends and family and loved to have a laugh: with that unique Clayton smile he certainly persuaded happiness out of all he encountered.

Gregory married his forever companion Violet M Clayton (Martin) on August 3, 1985. They were sealed for all time and eternity February 2, 2010, at the Provo UT temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gregory and his family lived in Salt Lake City (sugarhouse) Utah, Chicago, Illinois and most recently Crystal River, FL.

He is preceded in death by his father Kelvin C. Clayton.

He is survived by his wife Violet M Clayton (Martin), his daughter Jamie L Clayton and his son Stewart Kelvin Clayton his grandsons Kaylum Gregory Clayton and Eden S. Clayton, also two step grandchildren Eljah Lundin and Louis Hollin. His mother Mary Ann Clayton, his brother K. Douglas Clayton (Ann Harmon) his sisters Nancy Poulsen (Lyle) and Annalee Poulsen (Troy).
