Elsie Brady Allan, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Orem, UT on the morning of January 28, 2016. The 8th and youngest child of William Isom and Estella Mae Ball Brady, she was born on January 14, 1930 in Red Mesa, CO where she spent most of her childhood.
The family moved to Provo, UT where she graduated from both Provo High School and beauty school at the same time in 1947. After the death of her father in 1950 she moved back to CO she worked as a telephone operator in Durango. Then at the age of 20, Elsie accepted a call to serve as an LDS Missionary in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of the Texas-Louisiana Mission. Upon release, she moved to Provo, UT to attend BYU and then to Salt Lake City where she worked for a short time as a secretary. She later continued to pursue what would become her life-long career as a beautician. She taught in various beauty schools as well as managed and owned several beauty salons throughout her life.
While living in Salt Lake City, she met and married John Stevens Allan on June 7, 1955. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed the beauty of nature, both on an artist's canvas and in her own flower garden. After retirement, she volunteered in the BYU Genealogical Library along with her husband. She also enjoyed the pursuit of her own family history and co-authored two books on the history of her father's and mother's families.
Survivors include (spouse) Dr. John S. Allan of Orem, UT, (children) Fred and Analisa A. Butterfield of Roosevelt, UT, J Brady and Deborah W Allan of Pomona, CA, Tory S Allan of Orem, UT, & David N and Theresa D Allan of Las Cruces, NM, (grandchildren) Angelina B. and Brice Tawzer, Edwin F and Sarah L Butterfield, Joseph J Butterfield, Isom W and Camille E Allan, Nadine M Allan, Brittani Allan, and Arlo I Allan (Friend) Bonnie R Gilbert.
Services for Elsie have been planned as follows: Friday viewing - February 5th, 2016, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, 1090 North 400 East, Orem, UT 84097 There will be a viewing on Saturday, February 6th, 2016, 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to the funeral services which will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the stake house, 575 East 800 North, Orem, UT 84097. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 8th, 2016, 11:30 am at The Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah 84065.
