Deana Bethers Leckie was born on August 23, 1942 in Heber City, Utah to Dean Bethers and Arthella Remund. Deana was raised in Daniel, Utah and went to school in Heber City for all 12 grades. She had 2 older sisters, 1 younger sister and 2 younger brothers.
After high school, she worked as a phone operator for about 3 years and then went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Santiago, Chile. Being one of the first full time missionaries in Chile, she served for 27 months. After her mission, Deana enrolled at BYU in Provo, Utah. In late October of 1967 she met Richard R. Leckie on a blind date. 90 days later, on January 26, 1968 they married in the Salt Lake City Temple.
They raised 9 children - Richard Kent Leckie (Lavonne), of Windam, MN, William Scott Leckie (Erika) of Crookston, MN, Cindy Alder (Kip) of Nibley, Utah, Ronald Joe Leckie ( Ally) of Jackson, MO, Carla Leckie of Franklin, IN, Vickie Leckie of Poway, CA, Dale Rex Leckie (Jami) of Lagrange, KY, Elizabeth Jones (Stephen) of Cumming, GA, Rachelle Whitley (Tyler) of Mebane, NC.
The first 20 years of marriage Deana and family moved around a lot, then settled for 9 years on Peoria, AZ. They then moved to Bowling Green, KY and lived there for 20 years. After retirement, Deana and Dick served 3 missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 2 years, in Bogota, Columbia for 1 1/2 years, and other 1 1/2 years in Cochabamba, Bolivia. After serving their missions, they settled in Palmyra, UT until illness forced them to move to an Assisted Living Facility in Spanish Fork.
Deana is survived by her husband Richard, her 9 children and spouses, 27 and 3/4 grandchildren, and 4+ great grandchildren. Deana is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and one grandchild.
There will be a viewing on Friday, January 10th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. It will be held at the Palmyra Ward LDS Church Building located at 1866 W 5000 S in Spanish Fork. This is the same building where we had Deana & Dick's 80th birthday party.
Saturday, January 11th there will be a Graveside Service at 10:00 am at the Heber City Cemetery, 680 N 550 E Heber City, UT. Everyone is invited to go back to the Church in Spanish Fork for a 1:00 pm luncheon.
