On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Bryce Lynn Monk of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away at the age of 72. Lynn was born August 20, 1951, in American Fork, Utah, to Jones and Melva Burrows Monk. He was the youngest of his brothers and sisters, Sheldon (Amy) Monk, Doyle (Sue) Monk, Edyth (Lynn) Pehrson, and Kathy Waters.
Lynn was raised in Granger (West Valley City), Utah, attended Granger High School, and Utah Technical College (Salt Lake Community College). He was married to Kim Hunn from 1969 to 1974, Barbara “Bobbi” Conrad from 1977 to 1987, and Theresa from 1993 to 1996.
Lynn loved working with his hands and had a successful career as a machinist at Stone Container Corporation (Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation; Rock-Tenn; Smurfit WestRock). Although the company went through several mergers, acquisitions and name changes, Lynn was loyal and worked for them his entire career of 32 years, earning several awards and recognition. He also ran a business from his backyard, creating concrete lawn sculptures. In 2011, Lynn was able to retire early but continued to be hands-on, helping family and friends with various building and mechanic projects. He purchased a CNC (computer numerical control) router and used his skills as a machinist to design and carve out unique and beautiful wood creations, gifting countless treasures to his friends and family.
Lynn had memorable trips to Korea to see Doyle and Brazil to pick up his son Bryce from his Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bryce and Lisha have given him 4 wonderful grandsons to carry on the Monk name: Ammon Bryce, Samuel Carl, James Thomas, Jared Robert. They were the love of his life.
Lynn loved his brothers and sisters and enjoyed eating out with them nearly every Friday for 25 years, with his personal bottle of Tabasco in hand. His homemade root beer is famous in the family and no party or reunion was complete without his cooler surrounded by dry ice fog and fascinated kids. His homemade suckers were also a hit. He spent countless hours researching genealogy and read all 20 volumes of Our Pioneer Heritage multiple times. Lynn knew a lot about his ancestors and had a great appreciation for them.
Lynn is survived by his brothers and sisters, his children, Tanna Rae “TR” Monk, Carrie, Bryce (Lisha) Monk, his stepchildren, Ron Pearce, Tina Howell, and Craig Pearce, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Brian Monk, and his stepson, Michael Pearce.
