Betty Norton Gunderson passed away on June 23, 2020 at the age of 82 in Provo, Utah. Betty was born September 8, 1937 in Central, Arizona. She was the fourth of six children of Lloyd and Vera Norton. She graduated from Thatcher High School, Eastern Arizona Jr. College, and later from BYU.
Betty married Merrill Gunderson in 1958 and they are the parents of seven children, thirty-five grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. Their total family count is at 84.
Betty was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many teaching and leadership positions. She and her husband served a mission in Bismark, North Dakota. Until memory problems in 2008, which necessitated a release as the Gospel Doctrine teacher, Betty was never without a church calling. She accepted all callings that came to her.
Betty was a model wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was the love of her husband's life. They did everything together. She was a gentle, cherished soul.
Betty lived 22 years in Duchesne, Utah, where her children were raised. She lived 7 years in Orem, Utah then moved to Centerfield, Utah and lived there for 23 years nurturing her family; especially her grandchildren. She always created a home of welcome and love to all of her family as they grew older and had families of their own.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Vera Norton of Central, Arizona; siblings: Wendell (Venna) Norton, Philbert (Donna) Norton, Marva Norton, Jerry (Linda) Norton, all of Central, Arizona.
Betty is survived by her husband, Merrill; children: Brent, Tempe, Arizona, Paula (Ken) Burr, West Jordan, Utah, Phyllis (Kelly) Allen, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Randall (Mariam) Gunderson, Salem, Utah, Pamala (Dan) Dunn, Springville, Utah, Patricia Gunderson, Richfield, Utah, Steve (Amy) Gunderson, Centerfield, Utah; daughter-in-law: Julie Gunderson, Mesa, Arizona, and sister: Judy (Alan) Slade, Eager, Arizona.
