Obituary for Lois Clark (Manwaring)

Lois Clark (Manwaring)
Lois Joan Manwaring Clark, our beloved mother, returned home to her Heavenly Father, and into the arms of her eternal companion, Merlin Wayne Clark, on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018. She passed away after a short illness at her home in Mapleton, Utah at the age of 93.

Lois was born in Rexburg, Idaho on July 18th,1924 to Horace Manwaring and Ivy Lee Manwaring. She was the youngest of five children. Her father was an instructor at Ricks College in Rexburg.

At the age of three, her parents moved to Springville, Utah for a few years, then on to East Los Angeles, California, where Lois spent her childhood years. Lois graduated at the top of her class from Garfield High School in 1942, during World War II. She attended junior college for a year, and then worked as a secretary in a war factory for the remainder of the war. After World War II, Lois moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University.

While on a BYU Fall Maple Leaf hike up “Y” Mountain, she met Merlin Wayne Clark. They were married on June 2nd, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple, by Joseph Fielding Smith. Lois and Wayne began family life, in Fullerton, California, where their first three sons were born. They later moved to Riverside, California, where two more sons were added to the family. In 1957, Lois and Wayne moved their family to Yucaipa, California where a daughter, and another son were born. In 1973, the family returned to Utah, residing in Salem, Woodland Hills, Provo, and Mapleton.

Lois was a stay-at-home Mom, taking care of her family for most of her child-raising years. She later worked at Burrell’s, a newspaper clipping service in Provo, UT, retiring at age 70.

Lois was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a teacher in the Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary—and as a counselor and advisor in the Young Women’s organization. Lois also served as a Cub Scout Leader and as a dedicated visiting teacher for many years. Lois and Wayne loved serving in the Provo Temple in their later years.

Lois was renowned for her upbeat, positive attitude. With a smile, she would always offer kind words of encouragement. She was never critical of others. Over the years, she has blessed the lives of her family—and everyone around her. She will be deeply missed. Lois is now hand-in-hand with her beloved husband and in the company of her parents and others she loves so much.

Lois is survived by 6 children: Kenneth (Flora) of Provo, UT; Gary of McMinville, OR; Steven (Sueanne) of Wanship, UT; Randall (Carolyn) of Orem, UT; Janice of McMinville, OR; and Larry (Susan) of Mapleton, UT. She is also survived by: 18 grandchildren 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Wayne Clark and one son, David Clark.

A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, May 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Mapleton 11th Ward Chapel, located at 1580 North Main Street in Mapleton, Utah. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The extended Clark family wishes to express appreciation to iCare Hospice, and to Legacy Funerals, as well as to all who have provided loving care and comfort to Lois, and to our family.
